After the Second World War, Japan and its economy were crippled. The industrial power it once had was reduced to rubble, with millions of people left live in precarious conditions. However, just a matter years, Japanese began re-emerge; local companies became multi-national corporations, hundreds high-quality ‘Made Japan’ products flocking Western markets. To surprise economists, researchers, politicians alike, rivaling mature economies without implementing either pure Anglo-American laissez-faire or Soviet-style central planning. This work “developmental state”’, set regulatory economic policies oriented towards developing protecting industry. Other countries such as South Korea successfully implemented similar during Cold War. But is “‘developmental state”’ success story an Asia-only phenomenon? In Latin America, former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa envisioned plan develop modernize country according his own, post-neoliberal environmentally-centered concept development. purpose this article compare Ecuador’s national development plans from 2007 until 2017 policy goals Korean developmental states.
